Oh My Goth! Images of Goths in Horror Movies

A week or so ago I was tagged by the awesome Freddie at Full Moon Reviews and the lovely Melissa at Little Miss Zombie to participate in the image meme making the rounds in the blogsphere. There have been a lot of great responses to this meme, like images of dancing, images of smiling, images of blood, images of vampire bites and so on in horror films, so it took me some time to come up with an idea for my own meme.

However, I finally decided upon images of goths in horror movies. I myself don't claim to be "goth", but if I had to pick a subculture to belong to, the goth culture would definitely be it! I love the dark aesthetic, the music, the clothing, the makeup and the romance! I just love it all!

Winona Ryder as Lydia in Beetlejuice!

And so I set out on a quest to find images of goths in horror flicks. I decided that most vampire flicks featuring latex-clad club-goers were too easy, so you won't find many of those images here. Oh, and I'm supposed to tag people, but I'm not gonna. Instead, if you read this and want to participate, consider yourself tagged to come up with your own set of images in horror films.

Below you'll find a variety of images and a variety of goths that have appeared in horror flicks:

Kim Director in Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows

Alexis Arquette in Bride of Chucky

Dani Filth in Cradle of Fear

David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger

Violet from Friday the 13th Part 5
(a bit more New Wave than Goth, but I included her anyway!)

Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins in Ginger Snaps

Kyle Gallner in Jennifer's Body

Asia Argento in Land of the Dead

Rainbow Harvest in Mirror Mirror

Return of the Living Dead 3

Sangre Eterna

Julin in Sweatshop

Krystal Freeman in Sweatshop

Fairuza Balk in The Craft

The Rage: Carrie 2

Thicker Than Water

 Daphne Danger in Earth Day

Urban Legend

Danielle Harris in Urban Legend

The Crow

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark

Tim Burton's Vincent

This is by no means an all-inclusive list, so if you can think of any other goths in horror flicks just leave 'em in the comments below!

  1. Lol! Vincent in Tim Burton's short film was absolutely hilarious! I also liked the goth girl in The Craft.

  2. I loved every choice here. Goths rule!

  3. Oooh Dani Filth! I think he is pretty hot for a gothic dude. I love Violet as well.

I was actually going to do mine on gothic people, but then decided to do the big hair thing instead. I'm glad you did it. Great post!

  4. You have done a fine job there my dear. Great list. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Ha, how funny, I tagged you too! What a great idea.

  6. Kim Director was INCREDIBLY hot in Blair Witch 2. The best part about the entire movie. Also, I wouldn't exactly call Bridgett and Ginger goths, per se, in Ginger Snaps. They're misfits, certainly, and have a peculiar style, but they don't really rock the all black and pancake face.

  7. Ah, but you don't have to rock the all black and heavy makeup to be goth...Bridget and Ginger are entranced by the darker aesthetic of life and I think that's what makes them beautifully goth. :)

  8. Thanks, very thanks by the list. I am very grateful for these movies. I'm brazilian and i love goth movies. If you have more movies after year 2000, please send me the name to my e-mail: Thanks

  9. Kyle Gallner looked sexy as hell as a goth!!!

  10. I love the gothic look inspired by the heroes of the film. I really like the look of Brandon Lee in "Crow", "Lydia Deetz" in "Beetlejuice". Even the look of Vincent is not bad ...
I recommend another great look: vampires of Interview with the Vampire. Their costumes are great!

  11. The kids of vampire Clan are too. The addams family, The two main characters of Gypsy 83. The doom generation Amy blue [kinda]

  12. The goth kid in Jennifer's Body and the NoES remake is too pouty and sad for my tastes. I like my goths more Fairuza Balk in the Craft.

  13. What about Angela from Night of the Demons (the original movie from 1988)???
