Food Review: Trader Joe's Mini Cinnamon Sugar Churros
My latest obsession? These brand new accidentally vegan mini churros from Trader Joe's! They just hit stores this January, and I'm already hooked! Though traditional churros are actually vegan and made with just water, flour, sugar, oil, and cinnamon, it's hard to find vegan churros at restaurants as they tend to add icky, unnecessary ingredients like eggs and dairy.
So you can imagine how overjoyed I was to learn that these churros were accidentally vegan, hurrah! The only reason they aren't marked with Trader Joe's trusty vegan "V" label is because they can't guarantee that the sugar used is vegan, but unless you have strict views on sugar processing this shouldn't be a problem.
The Mini Cinnamon Sugar Churros can be found in the freezer section of your local Trader Joe's grocery store and come in a bag of about 40 for about $4. You simply pop them in a pre-heated oven for about 7 minutes, then roll them around in the included cinnamon sugar to coat them. I love that they are so quick and easy to make!
After baking, the churros come out perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. I love their small size, which makes them easy to enjoy on their own, but they also make a fantastic addition to vegan ice cream!
I can find no fault in these mini churros, except that they are dangerously delicious!

ReplyDeleteI love churros! There was this churro stand when I was in Cusco, and they sold stuffed churros (like chocolate, manjar, fruits). I really miss it.
