Food Review: Sweet Magic Bakery Cookies

Sweet Magic Bakery's Orange Zest Sugar Cookies

In my never-ending quest to eat all the vegan things, I was thrilled to be approached by My Cottage Foods to try Sweet Magic Bakery's gluten-free and vegan cookies. My Cottage Foods delivers local craft food straight to your door and helps smaller companies gain exposure by offering up their organic and allergen-friendly products through their online store. My Cottage Foods is like having your own local farmer's market online, and it's so cool! Not everything on their site is vegan, but many products are, including a few varieties of Sweet Magic Bakery's cookies.

Sweet Magic Bakery has a mouth-watering selection of cookies (though not all are vegan, so always check the ingredients!), and I was lucky enough to receive their Gluten-Free Vegan Cinnamon Spice Molasses and Orange Zest Sugar cookies to try. Owner and head baker Vivian Van Natta has been baking her whole life (her fondest memories are of helping her mother bake in the kitchen) and she was inspired to offer up allergen-friendly baked goods since she has a dairy- and gluten-intolerant friend as well as many customers who want to avoid dairy and/or gluten. Her goal is to make vegan and gluten-free baked goods that are delectable! Keep reading to see if she succeeded...

I eagerly tore into the bag of Cinnamon Spice Molasses Cookies first. They remind me of Christmas cookies with their delightful cinnamon scent! They are chewy yet soft and have a wonderful balance of spice and sugar to them. I really like the texture and taste of these cookies and never would have guessed they are gluten-free! They also look great, too, with a lovely dusting of cinnamon and sugar on the top of the cookies!

These cookies are gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and vegan! The ingredients are simply oat flour, almond flour, white rice flour, pure cane sugar, organic coconut oil, arrowroot powder, organic flax seed, pure vanilla extract, turbinado sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ground cloves, and sea salt.

Next, I tried the Orange Zest Sugar Cookies. These are so fragrant and smell delicious. They are studded with bits of orange, and their wholesome scent and taste brought me back to baking with my mom when I was little! The tops of the cookies have a perfect crinkle and sparkle with bits of sugar and sea salt on them. Their light and zesty taste is perfect for spring and would be fantastic served with tea.

These are also gluten-free and vegan, with the ingredients being just oat flour, almond flour, white rice flour, pure cane sugar, organic coconut oil, arrowroot powder, fresh orange zest, organic flax seed, pure vanilla extract, pure orange oil, and sea salt.

Both cookies are unbelievably delicious, and come in paper bags with about seven cookies per bag. Each bag runs about $5.50 on My Cottage Foods' site. These cookies are high-quality and taste out-of-this-world, so they are well worth the price if you are looking for a treat! Also, it is great that you are supporting a woman-owned, independent, small business when you purchase these cookies!

Besides the Orange Zest Sugar Cookies and Cinnamon Spice Molasses Cookies, Sweet Magic Bakery has a few other varieties of vegan options. Some of their other baked goods aren't marked as vegan, but I believe you can request them to be made vegan if you are interested in ordering some. As always, read the ingredient list or contact them to verify which products are vegan before ordering.

Sweet Magic Bakery's vegan and gluten-free cookies are bewitching! You can purchase these spell-binding sweets on My Cottage Foods website!
