Watch Now on Netflix: Raw
Stop everything you're doing and go watch Raw on Netflix now! It is one of my favorite films I've seen this year, and I am so excited that it is finally on Netflix so it can reach a wider audience. This French-Belgian film was brave, bold, and had plenty of cringe-worthy moments throughout.
Synopsis: Dedicated vegetarian Justine joins her older sister at veterinary school, where she is put through a hazing ritual and forced to eat a piece of flesh. This act leads to downward spiral as Justine's true self begins to emerge, with horrifying and unexpected consequences.
When I saw this in the theater earlier this year, I remember leaving the theater so satisfied and happy at experiencing such a solid and beautiful film. Writer and director Julia Ducournau has created such a stunning film, with characters you actually care about and some truly horrific moments. Also, who knew veterinary school got to crazy with hazing rituals and parties?! Is this a thing in France?
I don't want to give too much away, as Raw is a dish best served fresh without any preconceived expectations. If you like sophisticated horror that doesn't shy away from a bit of gore, definitely check out Raw on Netflix!
You can also find the film on Amazon!

...Huh. Sounds...interesting. I think
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check it out. Have you heard of Tragedy Girls? I just saw it last night and it was a lot of fun. If it plays nearby, it's worth seeing.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to watch this one (not sure it's on netflix here). This movie is about belgian schools, not french. As a belgian, I can testify that vet schools are known for their abusing and dangerous initiation rituals. Students almost died.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. I might have to watch it. The Midnight Meat train is another movie with a vegetarian character who starts experiencing meat hunger, as well as more terrifying events...
