Happy October! Our favorite time is here, the spooky time when windows and doors are decorated with jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, ghosts, black cats, bats, witches, and monsters of all shapes and sizes. When fun-size candy beckons to us from the aisles of grocery stores. When horror movies and spooky stories abound. When Halloween decor is displayed in every store you walk into. When the nights are longer and cooler. When the leaves start to turn orange, yellow, and red, and the crisp air smells of mulled apples and spiced pumpkin. When the veil becomes ever thinner, and it makes it feel like anything is possible. This is our time, Halloween-time!
And not only that, but today is the first day of October and that kicks off the annual Countdown to Halloween, a blogging event I've been participating in since 2010 that celebrates 31 days of Halloween! During October, a creepy collective of spooky bloggers (find us all HERE) share Halloween-related content all October long. I'll be sharing all sorts of Halloween treats with you, from dreadful decor to eerie events to to-die-for recipes and DIYs to macabre movie lists and morbid music and so much more!
To kick off the 31 days of Halloween, my tradition is to share my Halloween bucket list for the year. I am really spoiled here in SoCal with so many incredible events and fearsome festivities during the Halloween season that I couldn't do them all if I wanted to! However, I do like jotting down my haunting hopes and spooky dreams for the month of October - this is like my wish list of all the stuff I want to do to really revel in the season! I am trying to take it easy this year, and enjoy small pleasures, like watching Halloween movies, eating pumpkin treats, making it out to a few haunts, and spreading the Halloween fear here as well as on my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook! You can check out my list below...
My Halloween 2018 Bucket List:
-Send and receive Halloween cards
-Watch as many horror movies or spooky-themed movies as possible
-Visit the Tanaka Farms Pumpkin Patch
-Visit another pumpkin patch or apple orchard
-Watch my favorite Halloween-themed movies, TV shows, specials, etc. (see my ultimate list of Halloween-themed movies if you need ideas!)
-Attend Salem's Market and buy some spooky goodies on October 6th in Garden Grove
-Make my home smell like autumn 24/7 with candles from Cellar Door and A to Z Candles (review)
-Check out all the other participating blogs on the Countdown to Halloween list
-Visit theme parks and haunted attractions (I have a lot to choose from - Queen Mary's Dark Harbor, Knott's Scary Farm, Universal's Halloween Horror Nights, Warner Bros. Horror Lives Here, Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, Pageant of the Monsters, Halloweentime at Disneyland, etc.)
-Find a new Halloween perfume for myself
-Bake up some tasty vegan fall treats (like my vegan pumpkin s'more cookies - batter shown above - maybe I'll share my recipe for these this year)
-Decorate my desk at work (this doesn't seem like much, but it is HUGE since I never ever personalize my desk!)
-Complete a DIY project (what should I try to make??)
-Drive out to the country to try and find some cooler temps / fall leaves
-Make my own pumpkin spice coffee body scrub
-Carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds
-Participate in The Great Pumpkin Project, where you carve a jack-o-lantern and place it somewhere to spread the Halloween spirit!
-Make a Halloween playlist
-Read The Halloween Tree and other Halloween-themed stories/books (like my faves HERE and HERE)
-Attend the Anaheim Halloween Parade on October 27th
-Complete the 31 Days of Halloween
Yep, I'm keeping it simple this year, but I want to stick to doing small things to celebrate the season so I can really savor every day. I don't have much free time between the day job and other responsibilities, so I'm hoping I get the chance to really stop and smell the pumpkin spice this Halloween season.
I'll be posting many of my Halloween adventures here, but you should also follow me on my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook page so you don't miss out on any Halloween goodies!
What do you have on your wish list / bucket list for this Halloween?
Stay spooky!
I definitely want the cookie recipe! I haven't planned a lot for this Halloween. I'm doing ghost tours again this year, if that counts. My husband is going to dress up like Carl Sagan. I'm not sure what my costume plans are yet...but I have a cute Bela Lugosi bowling ball bag/purse I'm going to use this month!
ReplyDeletei never heard of the Anaheim Halloween Parade. Since 1924! wondering if there will be video. i see it will be televised. maybe there will be a replay on that tv station website.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a list!
ReplyDeleteI'm so inspired to write a list for us now! There's so many fun things to see and do! The best season is definitely in full swing now!
