NYC Travelogue (Part 2)

Yesterday I shared part one of my trip to New York City, and below you will find the continuation of my travelogue!

We left off after I had eaten myself silly through Manhattan and Brooklyn, strolled through Central Park and attended the goth/industrial Triton Festival...

NYC Travelogue (Part 1)

Hello Foolish Mortals,

I apologize for my absence…I am usually chock full of updates this time of year (the most wonderful time of the year!), but I recently got back from vacation and then got overwhelmed with work, etc. upon my return. I wish I could be permanently on vacation (doesn't everybody?)!

Since I can’t be forever on vacation, I wanted to share with you my vacation to New York City I took earlier this month! Mister Spooky and I jetted off to NYC for Triton Festival, a goth/industrial music festival held every year there. We've always wanted to go, and this year we decided to do it! Below you'll find my travelogue of the trip, though I want to share so much that I'll be breaking it down into several posts over the next few days.

Our vacation began with a red eye flight on Wednesday night that got us to New York in the early morning on Thursday. Our friend that lives there was gracious enough to meet us and show us the ways of the subway back to his place on Wall Street, where we stowed our luggage and went off to explore! The streets of Wall Street were eerily empty and hauntingly beautiful just as the sun was rising. Then we hopped the subway and ended up in the East Village near Sustainable NYC, so I took a look around at this adorable eco-shop and grabbed a vegan muffin to go!

Knott's Berry Farm Offers New Vegan Food Options!

Gasp! America's first theme park, Knott's Berry Farm in Orange County, California, has started offering some of their carnival fare VEGANIZED! Think vegan funnel cakes (!!!), vegan mac 'n' cheese, vegan chick'n tenders, vegan hot dogs/burgers/pizza and even a vegan tofu scramble for brunch! Many vegan options will also be gluten-free and soy-free. Way to go, Knott's!

Credit should also go to Carolyn Scott-Hamilton, aka The Healthy Voyager, for working with the amusement park to develop vegan options of theme-park favorites! Thank you, Carolyn, for your amazing work!

I just read about this awesomeness this morning on Compassion Over Killing, but after a quick Google search it seems this once announced last month. Still amazing news, though, especially since Knott's Scary Farm is fast approaching! Maybe they will have some special Halloween treats veganized as well? I can only wish!

I'm not sure if all their vegan options have been rolled out yet...has anyone had a chance to try them yet? I can't wait to try the vegan funnel cake!

UPDATE: I haven't been to Knott's to try these options myself, but I've heard a lot of people say they haven't been able to find these vegan options in the park and that park employees have been less than helpful and seem clueless about vegan options. Not sure what the deal is, but I hope Knott's gets it together and becomes more consistent with their vegan offerings. If you visit the park and are able to locate any vegan options, let me know in the comments below! Good luck!

New Vegan Products from Natural Products Expo West and Veganism on SNL!

Bring it on down 2 Veganville!

2013 is shaping up to be the year of the vegan!

First off, there are a ton of new vegan products set to debut this year! This past weekend, Orange County hosted the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim. While I didn't attend, I've been drooling over tons of photos posted by my favorite vegans and vegan companies of new vegan products!

My most anticipated vegan products I've seen from the expo are:
  • Tofurky pockets (vegan hot pockets!) and pot pie (swoon!)
  • Daiya pizza, cheese slices and cream cheese (om nom nom!)
  • Gardein jerky (wooooooo), "chicken" sliders (mmmmm) and GoGo Cuisine meals (yum!)
  • Earth Balance P.B. Popps (peanut butter popcorn - OMFG!!!)
  • So Delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Coconut Milk Frozen Dessert (drooooooool!)
  • Kettle Brand Maple Bacon Potato Chips (yes, they are vegan!)
  • Follow Your Heart Bleu Cheese Dressing (vegan bleu cheese...yes please!)
  • Pacifica makeup line (love their vegan perfumes, cannot wait for their new makeup line!!)
I'm sure there were certainly LOTS of other vegan products, but these were the ones that really made me go "WOW!"

If all the great vegan products weren't awesome enough, last night on SNL Justin Timberlake (who is reportedly a vegetarian) did a skit that WASN'T offensive to veganism! "Bring it On Down 2 Veganville (Vegan Shake)" had Timberlake dressed up as a giant tofu singing about all the benefits of veganism. Check it out below!

It is going to be an awesome year for vegans!

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Home Spooky Home

Hello lovelies!

It's been more than a month (!) since my last blog post so please accept my sincere apologies for leaving you in the dark so long! It has definitely been a crazy last couple of months...I've moved into a new place (whew, it's been a chore AND a joy getting it up to par!) and on top of that the "day job" has been so hectic that I've taken a hiatus from posting/writing on Fatally-Yours.

Mister Spooky (my wonderful boyfriend) and I are settling in quite nicely in the new digs, but we are still tackling lots of home improvement odds and ends that must be done before I feel totally at ease and can actually have a housewarming party. So far we've bought a fabulous new couch, painted an accent wall blood red and applied a spooky tree branch decal to said wall (see photo above). Next we must tackle mounting our flat-screen TV to the wall, buying a dining set and finally getting a new bed! Once everything is set up I'll be sure to post more photos. I'm just glad we are finally all unpacked...boy, I never realized how many books and DVDs I own!

But enough on updates about me, let's get the the important topic...Halloween!! I'm so excited to see Halloween items popping up in stores...from Pottery Barn to Bath and Body Works to Michael's, stores are starting to stock their shelves with orange and black! I'm also glad that summer is nearly over...this heat certainly does not suit me so I'm looking forward to the cooler days of autumn (though in Southern California this usually doesn't happen until November). This year, we are taking the year off from throwing our annual Halloween party (check out past years' photos HERE). Sad, I know, but I've just been too overwhelmed with life in general to focus on planning another stunning Halloween party. Plus, my family will be in town the week prior to Halloween and I'd like to spend as much time with them as possible (Disneyland, here we come!).

So, fear not, dear readers...I am back, though I may be posting less than usual for a bit longer. I'm sure once Halloween season is in full swing you'll be seeing a lot more of me, though!

Disappearing Acts and other Curiosities

Gah! It's been a few weeks since I've haunted the hallowed halls of this little blog, so I apologize, dear readers (errrrr...if there are any left).

What is the reason behind my disappearing act? Hmmm...well it might have something to do with my discovery and subsequent tumbling (tee hee) head-over-heels for Tumblr (sorry Blogger...it's not you, it's me; we aren't breaking up, but consider this an open relationship from here on out).

Fear not! I will still be posting on here...March is nearly over and spring is here (though the weather suggests otherwise) and it's always during this time that the Halloween bug bites...HARD. Plus I have a bunch of vegan products I want to review and there's always a grab-bag of horror goodies for me to talk about. So look for more posts, rants, raves, etc. coming...eventually!

And if you have a Tumblr, check out mine HERE!

My New Home

Hello creepy crawls,

I've decided to jump ship from veganhorror.blogspot to spookyvegan.blogspot.com, which will be my new home!

I feel the old URL may have confused some folks, so hopefully now that the blog name/URL both match things will run much more smoothly.

I'll be moving posts from my old blogspot over to this one, but look for new posts soon!

Apologies and Salutations

So sorry for neglecting you, my vegan fiends!

April has been a cruel month for me! A few weeks ago I got realllllly sick and after refusing to go to the doctor (I loathe going to the doctor's...even tho my doc is pretty cute!) even though I had a fever for 4 - 5 days straight, I finally had to go. Turns out I had pneumonia! I know, right?! How the heck did I, who almost never gets sick, catch pneumonia, especially in sunny SoCal?! Anywho, being sick wasn't fun. I had to miss my "day job" and couldn't really do anything besides lie in bed and watch streaming episodes of 30 Rock on Netflix. I didn't have the energy to cook anything either, so meals consisted mainly of PB&J sandwiches. Sure, it may sound nice now, but I was pretty miserable and most of the time I was coughing so hard I felt like I was gonna cough up a lung (or two).
