I have tried these before at Expo West (where they made my top 10 list!), and have been impatiently waiting for them to hit stores. I finally found them at Ralph's grocery store (they also are carrying the new Crabless Cakes!) this past October and did a happy dance! I loved these at Expo, and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into these cruelty-free bites again!
They cook up very quickly in a pan, so I cooked mine up in my trusty cast iron skillet. Meanwhile, I also made some rice. When the porkless bites were done, I set them aside and tossed them in the sweet and sour sauce they come with. Then I sauteed some bell peppers and pineapple together. Once those were done I put the porkless bites back in skillet with the bell peppers and pineapple so all the flavors would mingle and so that the sweet and sour sauce could coat everything. After a few more minutes on low heat, I put some rice in a bowl and then piled it high with the porkless bites, bell peppers, pineapple, and sauce mix. Wow, was it ever good!
The texture of the porkless bites was spot on! They kinda reminded me of perfectly cooked tofu, with a crispy outer shell but soft insides, only with better, more realistic texture. And the sauce! It may have been a bit too sweet, especially with the pineapple in there, but I still loved it! It complemented the porkless bites perfectly.
I really liked the new Gardein Porkless Bites, and love how they keep adding stellar vegan options that make it ever easier to go and stay vegan!
You can find these in the freezer section of grocery stores.
