Lush's New "Emotional Brilliance" Vegan Makeup Line

It's finally here! Lush has unveiled their new makeup line, called "Emotional Brilliance!"

I am a Lush devotee and have loved their fabulous products for years now. I use their foundation (or "color supplement" as Lush calls it) and love it, but I have always wished they would expand their line and offer vegan eyeliners, mascaras, lipsticks and so on.

Well, I (and many others) finally got that wish granted! A few weeks ago Lush released a whole slew of gorgeously colorful cream eyeshadows, eyeliners, mascara and lipsticks! Not only that, but they are all vegan!! Yahoo! Not to mention all of their products are cruelty-free and sourced from the best ingredients and are suitable for sensitive skin types. Their makeup nourishes skin instead of damaging it! Oh Lush, how I love you so!

Read more about each new product below:

Liquid Eyeliners
The liquid eyeliners range contains two different types of liners; cream liners that can be blended to your desired shade, and no-smudge stay put liners that set immediately after application.

Cream Eyeshadows
The cream eyeshadows can be bold and colourful or less dramatic as the base softens easily into the skin. The base, made with soothing rose petal infusion, almond and jojoba oils, is gentle enough for sensitive eyes.

Liquid Lipsticks
This super softening formula, which is a simple blend of organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax and rose wax, can be used to colour cheeks as well as lips. To soften the effect, simply apply a LUSH lip balm before your colour.

In addition, Lush has a new Eyes Right Mascara specifically formulated with fresh wheatgrass for that is gentle on eyes as well as translucent face powder and skin tints (one that brightens skin for a younger look and one that gives it a tawny glow).

I cannot wait to head to my local Lush store and try all their new goodies! It is so great that there is now another vegan option in cosmetics now!

Look for reviews of these new products soon!

99 Days 'Til Halloween!

Yesterday marked 100 days until Halloween, but since I zoned out and totally missed that milestone, I figured I'd make it up by posting today, which marks just 99 days left until All Hallow's Eve!

Just 99 days to go...what have you planned for your Halloween? Have you even started yet or is your head spinning like the mayor of Halloweentown above?

On my end I have our party theme all picked out and most of the decorations purchased/assembled, but no costume yet and lots of party planning still to do. Not to mention coming up with ideas for posts for my annual 31 Days of Halloween!

Despite the work ahead, I couldn't be happier that Halloween is getting closer! I can't believe Halloween stuff is already popping up in stores, but it makes me giddy every time I spy Halloweeny items! Expect lots of Halloween-related posts from here on out.

Huzzah for the countdown to Halloween season!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Friday the 13th is always a very special day for spooky fiends such as myself. I usually celebrate by (what else) having a Friday the 13th marathon with Mister Spooky and endless bowls of popcorn, but to be honest today's Friday the 13th caught me unawares and unprepared. I haven't made any plans for the occasion, even though I hear it is the last Friday the 13th of the year!

I'm sure I will throw something last-minute together, but even if I don't do anything the gleefully spooky feeling from it just being Friday the 13th is usually enough for me!

What will you be doing to celebrate the momentous occasion?

Halloween Party Planning Begins: Zombie Prom

 Dying to Party!

Sheesh, I feel like I am so behind on my Halloween planning even though it is only July. Around this time of year, though, I usually already have my costume picked out, the theme all planned out, a date chosen, and lots of ideas for games/food/etc.

This year though, I’m lagging a bit behind, even though we are only 114 days away from Halloween! I have decided on a theme, though: zombie prom! I know zombies are a bit over-played at the moment, but who cares? I have always loved zombies and I think this theme would allow people a lot of creativity in choosing their costumes, plus would be really awesome/easy to decorate for! Some of my ideas for the party are below.

Costumes: Obviously, guests could come as just a regular ol’ zombie, but even better would be high-school themed zombies (undead cheerleaders, jocks, nerds, etc.). Guests could also choose to glam it up and come as undead prom attendees (puffy dresses, tiaras, corsages, tuxedos, are musts!) OR as their favorite deceased celebrity (how cool would a zombie Marilyn be?). Another unique option would be to do Dia de Los Muertos skeleton makeup…I love Dia de Los Muertos, so I would definitely welcome that costume. Whatever undead costume guests pick, though, a pale complexion, sunken eyes and cheekbones, tattered clothes and blood are all musts! There are lots options for zombie costumes (how cute would a Plants vs. Zombies couple’s costume be?!) and I can’t wait to see what creative creepy-crawlies everyone dresses up as!

Decorations: I’m thinking tons of balloons and streamers, lots of confetti over everything, using black butcher paper to create silhouettes of gravestones and shambling zombies on the walls, scattering bloody handprints/blood splatter and body parts here and there, having a “zombie contamination zone” and so on! I will also have a prom photo area decorated with a "Zombie Prom 2012" banner where guests can take their prom photos.

Music/Entertainment: I will have ‘80s/’90s prom classics (suggestions, please!!) alongside zombie-themed songs playing on the iPod and I could have zombie movies playing in the background or in a separate room.

Games: There will be a costume contest and the winners will be crowned King and Queen of the zombie prom. We could play zombie-themed games like zombie trivia, a zombie survival game, a contest for best zombie impression, etc. for entertainment. Zombie prizes will be given to the winners!

Food: There are tons of options for food, but I would definitely make some zombie finger cookies and would definitely have some sort of braaaaaaaiiiiin (don’t worry, it will be vegan!) dish. I’m thinking a bloody brains dip made with (vegan) cream cheese and salsa served with bat wings (blue corn tortilla chips) and maybe some brain cupcakes or blood-shot eyeballs.

I’m getting excited thinking of ideas already! I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was ready to host another Halloween party (I skipped hosting one last year), but now I am totally stoked and ready to hunt down some braaaaaaaaiiiiins for this year’s festivities!

Suggestions are much appreciated…sound off below if you have any for this theme!

What are you planning for this Halloween? Or is it too early for you to even be thinking about?

Beauty Review: Dr. Bronner's Magic Lavender Shaving Gel

I recently was on the hunt to try a new shaving gel and decided to try Dr. Bronner's Magic Lavender Shaving Gel. Dr. Bronner's is a well-established brand known for their fair-trade, organic, all-natural and vegan products. I had never tried a Dr. Bronner's product before using their shave gel, though I've heard lots of praise for their castile soap (that's next to try on my list!).

From the label:
Enjoy a truly clean shave without any synthetic ingredients. This unique gel is made with organic shikakai, which comes from the seed pods of a South Asian tree. Dr. Bronner's extracts the shikakai in organic sugar and grape juice and combines it with their mild castile soap so the razor glides easily, leaving behind smooth, soft skin.
I've been using Dr. Bronner's Magic Lavender Shaving Gel for about a month now to shave my legs in the shower and I've got mixed feelings on it. The shave "gel" is actually fairly liquid and has a soapy consistency. It had a tendency to just wash off my legs in the shower, which obviously makes it difficult to use. However, despite this the gel still protected my legs against razor cuts/irritation and did a fantastic job at moisturizing. I also loved its strong lavender scent!

Despite its odd soap-like consistency, I felt it did a good job at moisturizing and protecting my legs, however its roughly $10 price tag is a bit pricey in my opinion. I would definitely use this product again, but I would definitely wait until it was on sale before buying again.

Tasha Hussey Goddess Isis Earrings

Tasha Hussey's Goddess Isis Earrings

I recently entered a contest hosted by the lovely MissMuffCake and won a beautiful pair of Egyptian-style earrings by jewelry designer Tasha Hussey! The earrings immediately caught my eye as I LOVE anything Egyptian-themed! These particular earrings are modeled after the Egyptian goddess Isis, who, according to Wikipedia, is the patron for nature and magic as well as being the protector of the dead (among lots of other things).

Me wearing Tasha's stunning Goddess Isis earrings!

I just received my prize in the mail, and these earrings are even more stunning in person! Tasha Hussey is an amazing designer, but not only does she have an eye for detail, she also "up-cycles" her jewelry and turns vintage pieces into modern masterpieces. I absolutely love how her jewelry is both eco-conscious and gorgeous! Her vintage pieces evoke an air of elegance and mystic that modern jewelry simply doesn't have...

You can check out more jewelry available for sale from Tasha Hussey on her Etsy shop!

A big thank you to MissMuffCake for hosting the contest and choosing me as the winner and a very gracious thank you to Tasha Hussey for creating such striking jewelry!
