Even though 2020 was, for the most part, a dumpster fire, at least it gave us some truly excellent horror films. Before I get into my favorites of the year, I would be remise if I didn't address my long absence. I haven't written since October, and even then my posts were much less in frequency than in the past. With all the anxiety that 2020 wrought, in addition to a demanding role at work, I really wasn't in the mood to write. I've also stepped back from social media for the same reasons. To be honest, I'm not sure if 2021 will result in me posting more or not. While that is yet to be seen, I did want to at least share my favorite horror films of 2020 with you, since there are so many that delighted and frightened me and helped me get through such a beastly year.
Since there were so many incredible films in 2020, I will share my top 10, but after that I'll share many more favorites I saw in 2020.
A few things to note before we begin:
- This is a personal list of MY top 10 films of the year. That being said, I don't mind hearing about your favorites in the comments.
- I have only included films that have had wide releases in the United States in 2020. There are some films that technically were released in 2019 since they played at festivals, but their wider releases occurred in 2020, which I count as their official release.
- I've watched a lot of horror movies in 2020, but of course have not seen every single one that was released.
