Acai Bowl at Milk + Honey in Costa Mesa

Milk + Honey might sound like a weird place for a vegan to hang out in, but when I recently had the opportunity to visit this specialty drink and food place in Costa Mesa, California at The Camp, I was pleasantly surprised!

Though they serve a lot of non-vegan items (frozen yogurt, ice cream, non-vegan food items like sandwiches, breakfast items, etc.), they also offer several vegan options. Of these, I decided to try their acai bowl.

Perfection at Milk + Honey in Costa Mesa, CA

Filled with blended acai and topped with granola and loaded with fruit, this tasty dish not only looked pretty but was absolutely delicious!

Though a little pricey at around $5 - $6, I would definitely come back to Milk + Honey just for their acai bowls, but would also be interested to try their other vegan options. They make everything fresh, and though this might make the wait a little long, it's well worth it for the quality of food.

Also, their tiny shop is absolutely adorable and they have a cute open air patio filled with plants and succulents where you can spend a lazy day lounging around!

They don't have a website, but you can check out Yelp for more info!

Is there any other perfect way than to wake up with this:

Tonight's Viewing: The Crazies (2010)

Checking out 2010's remake of The Crazies tonight.

I don't care much for the original so it'll be interesting to see if this is one remake that actually improves upon its predecessor.

However, I'm not expecting too much.

Film Review: Shock (1977)

Easy Orange Flavored Tofu

I have a confession to make: I'm a lazy cook. I hate spending hours slaving away in the kitchen on a meal that will be gone within minutes, especially when I've been working all day and just want to relax during the evening.

So, my meals tend to skew towards the easy-peasy approach. And when I stumble upon a recipe that uses 5 or less ingredients, I'm totally stoked! This particular recipe (I found it somewhere online, though I can't remember the source - apologies!) calls for only 3 ingredients, which had my lazy bum leaping for joy (at least on the inside...it's entirely too much effort to physically leap for joy)!

And check out the results, with a nice base of brown jasmine rice and edamame:

Creepy Cute Creatures!

My mom is seriously THE BEST, you guys!!

A few months ago she made me the cutest little crocheted Cthulhu monster (check it out here), and now she sent me a care package full of these little guys:

Meet creepy cute Nosferatu, Devil and Corporate Zombie!

Adorable, right?! She made all these guys from the book Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots, and More!

Here are some close ups of the little monsters:

Fiendish Find: O.N.E. Coconut Water

Refreshing O.N.E. coconut water

While grocery shopping the other day I was looking for a healthy treat to perk me up. I happened upon some O.N.E. Coconut Water and decided to give it a whirl. They had multiple flavors, but I decided on the pineapple one.

I hadn't tried coconut water before trying the O.N.E. brand, but had heard plenty of health benefits to the drink. For example, according to the O.N.E. website, their coconut water has "five essential electrolytes (calcium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium and sodium), more potassium than a banana (15 times the amount of potassium as most sports drinks, without the artificial chemicals found in sports drinks.), no added sugars, no fat, no cholesterol, and no preservatives. Additionally, O.N.E. Coconut Water is a naturally sweet, low calorie, hydrating beverage."

Eerie Idea: Headstone Throw Pillows

I was browsing Etsy the other day for Halloweenie things and came across some cute headstone-shaped keychains made out of fabric and felt that were too creepy-cute for words!

What my pillow would look like, miniaturized! Photo from SilentOrchidStudio via Etsy!

And then I had an "a-ha" moment and thought, what if I made headstone-shaped pillows?! I could personalize each one and write my own eulogies on them!! I got all excited, but realized, ummmmm...I don't really know how to sew and I'm not that crafty.

It sounds like a simple project, though, right?! I'm sure someone much craftier than me can execute (mwahahahahaha!) this awesome project...and then perhaps they can send me a few pillows!

Pretty please?!

Halloween Party Planning Begins!

Hello my dear boils and ghouls!

Today I want to talk about every monster kid’s favorite holiday, Halloween!! Every year around the end of June I start getting really antsy about the approaching All Hallow's Eve holiday. Yes, it might seem a little early, but my Halloween cravings start during summertime, because I know that when the August rolls around I’ll be in full-on Halloween mode! August is when craft store Michael’s starts putting out their Halloween wares and when that happens you better stay outta my way because I only have a few months left to finalize decorations, costumes, food, etc. for our annual Halloween party (past themes have included Blood Feast, Dia de los Muertos and Carnival Noir)!

Bruce Campbell's Soup Company

In honor of Bruce Campbell's birthday (yesterday), SciFi Wire unveiled some rather clever (and printable!!) "Bruce Campbell" soup labels. You've got Gumbo Ho-Tep, Bisque o' County Jr., Autolycus Cheese and my personal favorite, Cream of Darkness!

Happy (belated) birthday, Bruce-y baby!

All four designs are printable, so go over to the Sci Fi Wire article to print them, slap them on your regular soup cans and pretty soon you'll be serving your friends Bruce Campbell's!

It's MMMMmmmmmm MMMMmmmmmm Groovy!

Tonight's Viewing: True Blood Season 2

It's been a year since I saw True Blood Season 1 on DVD (I don't have any of the fancy-smancy movie channels, so I can't watch the show on HBO) and I've been waiting to see Season 2 ever since!

Well, tonight's the night since I finally got Season 2 from Netflix (they released it like three weeks after it was available for purchase, those jerks!)!

I'm soooooooo excited!!! I may just stay up all night to watch all the episodes! Especially with Mr. Skarsgard gracing me with his GORE-geous presence! :)

Alexander Skarsgard...so tasty!

Recipe: Portabellas Stuffed with Pesto Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus with Vegan Hollandaise Sauce

A few weeks ago the boyfriend and I made this AMAZING dinner of portabella mushrooms stuffed with pesto mashed potatoes and a side of asparagus topped with vegan Hollandaise sauce. It may sound a bit fancy, but take it from me, who is usually a nightmare in the kitchen, it was unbelievable simple and amazingly delicious! I mean, just look at the photo:

 Yum yum yum!

Interview with Spooky Goth-Industrial Band God Module

God Module has been one of my favorite bands for some time now...with songs about Halloween, horror movies and other spooky subjects how can I resist? I've made their song "Spooky" my unofficial theme song ("I love the night, I like it spooky" PLUS samples from RotLD!) and I adore their new EP, The Magic in My Heart is Dead (buy it on Amazon)!

So it was a real (trick 'r) treat that I got to interview members Jasyn Bangert and Byron C. Miller recently!

Check out my interview with them HERE!

My New Home

Hello creepy crawls,

I've decided to jump ship from veganhorror.blogspot to spookyvegan.blogspot.com, which will be my new home!

I feel the old URL may have confused some folks, so hopefully now that the blog name/URL both match things will run much more smoothly.

I'll be moving posts from my old blogspot over to this one, but look for new posts soon!
