Schmidt's Charcoal + Magnesium Mineral Enriched Natural Deodorant

Whenever I want to switch it up from using my own homemade vegan deodorant, I turn to Schmidt's! Besides my own DIY deodorant, I find that it is only vegan deodorant that works to keep me feeling and smelling fresh all day, even through hot days or hard workouts. I adore their Cedarwood and Juniper deodorant (and they have many other scents!), but I was excited to try their brand new Charcoal + Magnesium Mineral Enriched Natural Deodorant they gave me at Expo West this past March. This, like their other products, is vegan, cruelty-free, and free of aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens and phthalates and does not contain any artificial fragrances. I am a sucker for charcoal anything, so I couldn't wait to try this out! I also love the scent itself, which smells like fresh, clean air after a thunderstorm in spring.

Besides looking and smelling great, the new formula has some seriously awesome benefits. The activated charcoal soaks up moisture and toxins from the body and the magnesium helps maintain electrolyte levels and produce enzymes and antioxidants - both assist in making sure you stay free from body odor all day long! The natural formula also includes coconut oil, arrowroot powder, and baking soda, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and vitamin E. The baking soda and coconut oil contain natural anti-bacterial properties that will keep bacteria (which cause body odor) at bay, while the shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and vitamin E help to keep the skin moisturized.

I have been using Schmidt's Charcoal + Magnesium deodorant on and off since Expo, and I am really pleased with the new formula! You don't need much, just a few swipes on each armpit, and it absorbs quickly and will keep you feeling fresh all day long! It isn't an antiperspirant, but I did notice that this formula does keep me dryer than my usual DIY deodorant. Plus, it smells amazing - I absolutely love the invigorating, fresh scent, which is unisex.

The formula stays solid, even on warmer days, and you kind of have to hold the stick up against your armpits or run it under a hairdryer for a few seconds to soften it a bit before applying it. Also, like I mentioned above, you really don't need much, just a few swipes. If you put too much on it doesn't absorb and ends up all over your clothes. When you use the right amount, there is no weird stickiness after application and it really does absorb quickly. I love how the scent lasts all day!

I am really digging Schmidt's new Charcoal + Magnesium Mineral Enriched Natural Deodorant! The formula is fantastic and keeps me dryer than usual, the scent is swoon-worthy (seriously I sniff myself all day long when wearing it!), and it keeps me smelling wonderful all day long.

You can find the new deodorant on Schmidt's website!

  1. What’s your receipe for your homemade deodorant? I’ve made some for my son and it doesn’t hold him and I’ve tried the Schmidt’s and he gets a rash. Still trying to find something that won’t break him out and hold him. It’s hard to tell a 9 year old he has to re-wash his pits and apply fresh deodorant throughout the day!

    1. It's linked above, but here you go: http://www.thespookyvegan.com/2013/06/how-to-make-best-handmade-vegan.html
Also, it sounds like your son may have an allergic reaction to baking soda - you might want to consider switching to a formula for sensitive skin. :)
