I have been wanting to check out director Karyn Kusama's The Invitation for quite some time and it is one of my most anticipated horror movies of 2016. Lucky for me, it finally hit Netflix instant this past Friday, and you better believe that evening I was firmly planted in front of my TV to watch this much-anticipated film.
When Will's ex-wife, Eden, invites him to a dinner party at the home they once shared, he assumes she wants to put unresolved tensions to rest. But soon, Will senses that Eden and her new spouse have something sinister in mind.
The Invitation is a slow-burn, tension-riddled film that keeps you guessing and puts you through the same nagging paranoia that the main character, Will experiences. You begin to wonder if something sinister is afoot or if it is all in Will's head. The use of whispered conversations, shadowy corridors, strange characters, off-color remarks, and the location of a labyrinth house heighten the tension, and I loved how the film addresses grief and explores how people deal with tragedy differently.
However, it is best to watch the film without knowing too much about it. I will say it moves at a languid pace the first part of the film, so beware if you aren't into that. I don't want to say much about the plot or the ending, but it did manage to keep me on the edge of my seat for its entire running time! If you enjoy smart, psychological thrillers, I highly recommend watching The Invitation now on Netflix streaming!

Have you seen the movie Stoker? I watched it recently, and it's a great suspenseful movie. It's filmed beautifully and has a nice soundtrack as well.

It's directed by Park Chan-Wook, who also directed Thirst, Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and Lady Vengeance, all of which are excellent films as well. And Stoker was penned by Wentworth Miller - his first writing credit, I believe!
