31 Days of Halloween: Best Halloween Villains

Halloween has traditionally been a time when evil spirits are allowed to roam the earth and cause havoc. From witches and warlocks to ghosts to demons and so on, people have traditionally feared these evil spirits. It's no different on modern film, so in honor of the evil spirits of Halloween past, present and future, I've decided to compile a list of the best Halloween villains on film!

Conal Cochran - Halloween III
Do I ever love this guy or what?! He hates kids, so he decides he wants to eradicate as many as possible with his Stonehenge-powered masks during the bestest holiday of the year - Halloween! I gotta give Mr. Cochran mad props for taking back the Halloween season from rugrats and putting it squarely back in the hands of dark forces!

Satan in Satan's Little Helper
This guy isn't much of a talker, but he is certainly a smooth operator. Not only does this killer convince a kid he's Satan from a video game, but he also gets a handful of the kid's older, comely sister as he pretends to be her boyfriend. Plus, he certainly has a unique take on what "trick 'r treating" means.

The House in Monster House
Everyone remembers an old, dilapidated house from their childhood town that all the neighborhood kids gave a wide berth to, especially on Halloween night. Yes, the house in Monster House is exactly how our young minds saw that creepy house on the corner when we were kids.

Oogie Boogie - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Lock, Shock and Barrel - The Nightmare Before Christmas
These delightfully devilish characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas need no introduction...Oogie Boogie is "...the shadow on the moon at night/Filling your dreams to the brim with fright" and his little minions are Lock, Shock and Barrel. I wouldn't want to get on their bad side! Just look what they did to Sandy Claws!

Sammi Curr - Trick or Treat (1986)
Sammi Curr is the resurrected rocker from the headbangin' Trick or Treat who loves killing people by shooting lasers out of his guitar. Seriously...lasers. Plus, he's got that whole '80s metal thing going on...how can he not rock?!

The Bunny in Donnie Darko
The Bunny sees your future...or is it past? Anywho, whatever it is it can't be good...just watch for airplane parts falling out of the sky and avoid storming out of Halloween parties.

Angela in Night of the Demons
Oh, Angela, one of my fave gothettes in horror films! She certainly turns nasty when she is possessed by a demon, but keeps the party going in style, decorating with real entrails instead of fake ones.

Sam - Trick 'r Treat
Truly the new king of Halloween, Sam guards his holiday closely and punishes those that don't respect its traditions. I salute you, Sam!

Michael Myers - Halloween (1978)
The original slasher icon who started slicing and dicing when he was just a little boy. As Dr. Loomis said, "I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes...the devil's eyes."

Mr. Dark in Something Wicked This Way Comes
Seemingly a benign and benevolent carnival owner, Mr. Dark actually lures people who hope to fulfill their deepest desires to their doom. Everything was going so well, until those meddling kids Halloway and Nightshade had to disrupt his plans!

Moundshroud from The Halloween Tree
Not necessarily a villain, but Moundshroud is more of a Death figure trying to hunt down the elusive spirit of young Pip, the "greatest boy that ever lived" while showing his friends the origins of Halloween.

Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus
Ah, the Sanderson Sisters, witches who've been summoned to modern times after they swore they would return for revenge on the town that sentenced them to death. They enjoy eating children and can't wait to sniff out some tender young flesh to add to their cauldron.

  1. Sammi Curr!! Oh my gosh! What a blast from the past. I absolutely LOVED that movie when I was a teenager. I even had the soundtrack (on cassette tape, o' course). That is so funny. I need to buy that movie, for reals.

    2) Sam didn't overwhelm me on first viewing of TrT, but rewatching it this year, I hope that if I ever have kids, they come out like him.
