Fund the Future of Fashion With Legends and Vibes

I am not the most fashionable person by any means. I prefer my look to be like the vampires from What We Do in the Shadows, "dead but delicious." Or rather, distressed, tattered black clothing like I just rolled out of a grave (so maybe not as delicious as I'd envisioned!).

Nevertheless, I am always looking for new, eco-friendly clothing brands that are vegan and ethically conscious. I'm glad to say that a new brand, Legends and Vibes, has caught my eye, and they are currently fundraising to make all our fashion dreams come true!

10 More Irish Horror Films to Watch For St. Patrick's Day

A few years back I shared a list of incredible Irish horror movies that weren't Leprechaun (though, let's be honest, we all have a special love in our horror hearts for that film franchise) and offered something new. All those horror film recommendations still stand today, but after watching a newly released horror film The Hole in the Ground, I knew there were other modern Irish horror films that deserved a watch, too!

With St. Patrick's Day being celebrated this weekend, I thought this would be a great time to highlight 10 more Irish horror films you should watch. These vary from films set in Ireland, filmed in Ireland, Irish-directed movies, movies produced by Irish companies, etc. These films vary in tone from boisterous to moody to disturbing to gory, so there should be enough variety for everyone! Also, don't forget to check out my previous top 10 list of Irish horror for more recommendations.

Check out my picks for 10 more Irish horror films to watch for St. Patrick's Day below:

New Vegan Finds From Expo West I'm Dying To Try

Natural Products Expo West 2019 occurred last week here in Orange County, and while I didn't attend, I have been drooling over the photos fellow vegans have shared of hot new vegan products that dominated the Expo! It is incredible how more and more exciting vegan items are popping up all over the place, and many of them debut at Expo West, where companies exhibit their products in hopes that buyers from grocery stores will decide to stock them on their shelves, investors will help support their expansion, and to generate buzz.

In past years (check out my past coverage of the event HERE), there has been a significant demand for new vegan products and more and more companies with vegan options are showcasing their products at Expo West. This year, veganism has really exploded at Expo West, and I've seen so many incredible new food items that I can't wait to get my claws on! I've collected some of the highlights from others' Instagram posts (big shout-out to all attendees who shared their photos with the world, and an extra special thank you to the VegNews team for their incredibly comprehensive coverage!), check out the exciting new vegan products from Expo West I'm dying to get my claws on:

CANDY CORN Teaser Gives Horror Fans A Treat to Look Forward to This Halloween

A teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film Candy Corn premiered on Dread Central and has given us a treat to look forward to this Halloween! This is Josh Hasty's next film after his behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Rob Zombie's 31. I have been looking forward to Candy Corn for quite some time and I am excited to finally get a peek at it! The film's ridiculously gorgeous poster (designed by Fright Rag's Justin Osbourne) was also unveiled, which you can see above. With this as well as the teaser trailer (which you can view below), I am even more excited to see this film, which we will hopefully get to see this year around the Halloween season. Halloween Club's Spook Show Just 1 Month Away!

For the past few years, horror and Halloween enthusiasts near and far have traveled to meet where all kindred spirits converge, at the "Spook Show", an annual event conjured up by the Halloween Club in La Mirada, California. It's full of incredible vendors, killer deals, costumed attendees, Halloween-themed musical acts and performers, and so much fun! Bethany Lowe Designs Halloween 2019 Preview

Bethany Lowe Designs just unveiled their wholesale catalog for their vintage-inspired Halloween 2019 collections and it is so delightful to get a peek at Halloween goodies when it is still wintertime! Though these are only for wholesalers and aren't available for consumers yet, these designs are something to look forward to when they hit stores next fall.

Bethany Lowe Designs began in 1985 with the artist's vision of creating unique, original, vintage-style folk art and holiday designs for the wholesale industry. At that time, very few companies were creating this distinct style and look. Bethany Lowe Designs gained a following of collectors and admirers throughout the years, and in recent years the resurgence of the vintage folk-art style has led to even more spotlight on this brand, who showcases other artists' work as well.

The 2019 Halloween catalog offers us a glimpse into the whimsical artwork and decor of Bethany Lowe Designs, along with other artists like Chicken Lips and Johanna Parker! Some of the designs showcased are old favorites while others are boo-tiful new editions, but all of them will give you a burst of Halloween joy just be looking at them! Check out some snippets from the catalog below:

Creep It Cozy: Comfy Clothes for Horror Fans

Brrrrrr, this February has been cold, even here in Southern California. It even snowed in LA, which only happens once every 10 years or so! I know in other parts of the country it is much colder, especially with the polar vortex that made temperatures plummet in many states.

The chilly temperatures are a perfect excuse to bundle up at home in comfy, cozy clothes and watch some horror movies (which is what I've been doing all winter long!). I've rounded up some comfy clothes and accessories for horror fans that are great for lounging around the house, check them all out below:

25 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Went Vegan

Every year I am overjoyed to find more and more people choosing the compassionate lifestyle by going vegan! And 2019 has already been declared the "Year of the Vegan" according to The Economist and veganism has been pegged as one of the fastest growing food "trends" (though we all know veganism isn't a trend or a fad, but a lifestyle change). In January, the UK-based charity Veganuary, which encourages and helps people go vegan in January and beyond, reported that they had over 250,000 participants sign up! This number of pledges exceeds those of the four previous years combined, which shows how many more people are interested in living more compassionately by going vegan.

This year alone I've already experienced many people reaching out and expressing their desire to go vegan and live more compassionately, which is so exciting to see! Since so many people were reaching out and I want to do everything possible to help and encourage them to go vegan, I thought I would offer some tips and tricks for going (and staying) vegan. These are things I wish someone had told me when I went vegan over 11 years ago. When I went vegan, I didn't know any other vegans and just kinda relied on the internet, books, documentaries and so on to inform myself and keep me dedicated to being vegan. Nowadays, there are so many resources out there, but I wanted to share some personal advice with you in hopes that it encourages those that want to explore veganism but maybe don't know where to start.

I have a lot of tips below, so at first it may seem overwhelming if you are just starting out, but I promise it gets easier! And it will be exciting as you start on your journey, even though you will go through many emotions and challenges. Just know there are so many others out there going through or who have been through the same feelings, discoveries, and challenges and you aren't alone! I am always here if you need any support, and there are so many great resources out there now for those going vegan. I'll cover more of this below, but I sincerely hope that these tips I'm sharing with you will assist in your own journey.

Gothic Love Songs for Valentine's Day

This playlist of love songs for gothic romantics is the perfect dark antidote to all the saccharine pop or whatever else is popular nowadays. Some songs are sweet, others are sinister, some are classics while others are little-known, but they talk about love and loss in a way that the strange and unusual of us can relate to. There are also a few I threw in that reference Valentine's Day or Cupid rather than love directly. I'm constantly adding and revising this playlist on my Spotify account, but take a listen to this year's selections below:

Watch Now on Netflix: Diablero (2018)

In this Netflix series from Mexico, a young priest enlists the help of a demon hunter and a paranormal expert to search for a kidnapped girl in the underworld of Mexico City. The trailer made it look like a high-octane version of the Supernatural TV show, full of demons, car chases, fun characters, witchcraft, and action, so I was intrigued. As soon as I started watching, I was hooked!

10 Things I'm Loving This January

A new year brings endless possibilities for reinvention, improvement, and becoming your best self. I'm all for that, but I'll be honest and say that this new year started off rather languidly for me. No harm in that, I've just been enjoying easing into the new year! I also celebrated my birthday at the beginning of the month, so that, along with the holiday break has encouraged what I like to call a "gentle laziness."

So far, this easing into the new year has gone very well, and I've enjoyed it along with some wonderful treats this month. Like I'm trying to do every month, I'm reflecting on ten things I loved. This both encourages me to be grateful for the little (and big) things, while also sharing some of my favorite things with you (which I always love to do)!

For January, here are 10 things I loved:

New Details + Trailer Revealed for Interactive Play "Delusion: The Blue Blade" Returning This Spring

Delusion has been one of my favorite Halloween traditions the past few years - it is an interactive play that changes every year, complete with new plot, new characters, and new locations - you get to play a part and physically move through gorgeously decorated sets and interact with the characters in the story. To get a peek at what the experience is like, check out my review of their 2016 show, His Crimson Queen! The show is always a popular draw and sells out super fast, though they took a break in 2017 to focus on their future plans. This past year they returned with The Blue Blade, which has been extended into spring 2018 with a brand new "director's cut"! Check out more info, as well as a new trailer, for this spring extension of the play below:

Fatally Yours 2019 Valentine's Day Chocolate Box

Fatally Yours 2019 Valentine's Day Chocolate Box

Vegan Treats, the bakery in Pennsylvania that makes the Fatally Yours chocolate box, has unveiled their 2019 Valentine's Day collection! Of course on the top of most spooky vegan's Valentine's wish list is their limited edition Fatally Yours chocolate box, containing delectable pieces of handmade vegan chocolate accented with gold leaf, all nestled in a stunning heart-shaped box that features artwork by Cecilia Granata (artist, tattooist, and author of Mama Tried: Traditional Italian Cooking for the Screwed, Crude, Vegan, and Tattooed).

I love sharing the Fatally Yours chocolate box with my fellow fiends since it really makes the perfect vegan Valentine for spooks like us! I am in no way affiliated with Vegan Treats, but I do like informing you of these to-die-for chocolates perfect for that spooky someone this Valentine's Day.

Vegan Treats only sells these limited-edition chocolate boxes for a short time, so make sure to pre-order yours as soon as you can if you want one. Vegan Beyond Famous Star Burger at Carl's Jr.

Whoa, vegan burger and fries at Carl's Jr.!

This past weekend I finally got around to trying the new Beyond Famous Star burger at Carl's Jr. This plant-based burger featuring a Beyond Meat vegan patty debuted at over 1,000 Carl's Jr. locations at the beginning of January and seems to be a big hit with vegans and carnivores alike! I recently tried the vegan Beyond Avocado Tacos at Del Taco that are being tested in certain markets in SoCal, and I was stoked to try this new option at Carl's Jr., especially since it would be the first time in a long time that I would be able to order a vegan burger at a traditional fast food joint (though the vegetarian fast food restaurant Amy's up in the Bay Area will always have my heart!).

From original stories to anthologies to remakes to sequels and more, this year promises a wide array of scary movies, and I think there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Vegan Beyond Avocado Taco from Del Taco

Beyond Avocado Taco and fries at Del Taco

This past December, Del Taco unveiled Beyond Meat at a select few of their locations in Southern California to test out the plant-based meat alternative before hopefully expanding nationwide. This is a HUGE deal and if it is successful, would give so many people access to try vegan food. It means that people want more vegan options and that companies are listening to them. It also means that more people will be exposed to vegan options, and that vegan food is becoming more and more mainstream! I am so, so stoked on this, and couldn't be more excited about Beyond Meat being available at select Del Taco fast food restaurants. Check out my review of their Beyond Avocado Taco below...

My Top 10 Horror Movies of 2018

Looking back on 2018, it was another stellar year for horror. I love that there was such a variety of films this year and horror fans weren't limited to only remakes or slashers or ghosts or monsters, but got so many different types of horror. It is such a wonderful time to be a horror fan and I am so grateful for all the phenomenal horror films that have been bestowed on us.

I also appreciate that there were so many surprises this year that came out of nowhere. Films are no longer burdened with having to be theatrically released, nowadays they can premiere on Netflix, Shudder, or VOD and be just as successful. While I still appreciate watching certain films in theaters, nothing can beat the convenience of seeing new films in the comfort of my own home. Many of my favorite films below were released exclusively on streaming platforms rather than having traditional theatrical releases.

I am so thankful we are living in this day and age where we have so many fantastic films being released and so many different ways to watch them. Below I've included my top 10 favorites of the year, though I easily could have made a top 20 list.
