Watch Now on Netflix: XX (2017)

I am so behind on my Netflix recommendations, please accept my apologies! Netflix doesn't seem to be releasing many new horror movies lately, but there are still some gems to be found. I recently revisited the horror anthology film XX, which was added to Netflix streaming not too long ago. This horror anthology is unique in that each segment is directed by a woman and each story is told from a female point of view. I had seen it previously but remember being underwhelmed. However, I decided to give it another shot and actually liked it a lot better the second time around!

Watch Now on Netflix: A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

Just in time for Krampusnacht and the holidays you can catch the horror anthology film A Christmas Horror Story streaming on Netflix! I had my doubts about this movie, because, let's face it, horror anthologies can be hit-or-miss, and a holiday horror anthology just sounds like a cash in. However, when I saw it last year I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I watched it again tonight and it was even better the second time around.

TALES OF HALLOWEEN 4-Disc Collector's Edition to be Released this September

I was so pleased yesterday when I heard the news that Tales of Halloween will FINALLY be getting a Blu-ray/DVD release, and just in time for Halloween! This horror anthology film features 10 festive Halloween stories from beloved directors and actors in the horror community. I saw it last year, and it is definitely a treat (it even made my top 10 film list for 2015)! The wait for a Blu-ray/DVD release of this film has been excruciating, but it was worth it since this release is brimming with extras, including bonus features, never-before-seen horror shorts, video diaries, and even the soundtrack to the film. Halloween and horror fans can now add this fun anthology to their collections! I can't wait to add it to my movie shelf and make a tradition of watching it every Halloween season!

Watch Now on Netflix: Holidays (2016)

Bless Netflix for finally offering up the new horror anthology, Holidays, on their streaming service! I've been looking forward to this one for a while (and included it on my list of most anticipated horror films of 2016), so I was excited to see this horror anthology which features eight different tales that revolve around holidays. The shorts include "Valentine's Day" directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), "Saint Patrick's Day" directed by Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), "Easter" directed by Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), "Mother's Day" directed by Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), "Father's Day" directed by Anthony Scott Burns (a Darknet episode), "Halloween" directed by Kevin Smith (Tusk, Red State), "Christmas" directed by Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), and "New Year's Eve" directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate).

Top 10 Horror Movies of 2015

When I started making my list of the best horror movies of 2015, I remember thinking that it would be a tough task, as 2015 didn't really stand out for me as a banner year for horror movies. I felt like there just weren't that many new releases and it would be hard to come up with 10 horror movies I adored this year. However, as I started making my list, I realized that this year it was about quality over quantity, and that there were several stellar horror releases in 2015.

This year (and as usual), indie horror reigned supreme, and while I already had most of the horror movies mentioned below on my radar, there were a few pleasant surprises! Another surprise was how varied my favorite horror movies were, from comedies to romance to gothic to artsy to gory to holiday horrors! Lots of different sub-genres this year, which I always count as a good thing!

I did find a pattern for many of the horror films I did end up enjoying. While some of the best horror movies of 2015 were raucous, fun affairs, I found that the majority of the ones I liked best were actually understated and subtle, films that really stuck with me long after I finished watching them. There were also several challenging horror titles, which I had to watch multiple times to decide whether I loved or loathed them (and at least one of my picks I'm still conflicted about).

So below, please find my top 10 horror movies of 2015!

TALES OF HALLOWEEN Trailer Debuts at Comic Con, Announces October Theatrical Release!

The trailer for the much-anticipated Tales of Halloween debuted at Comic Con over the weekend, and I couldn't be happier with how it looks! It was also announced that the film will hit theaters October 16th, just in time for Halloween!

My Top 10 Horror Movies of 2013

Happy New Year, fiends!

I didn't post much horror content on this blog in 2013, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the hell out of a lot of horror movies this past year! I've had a blast with the releases in 2013 and thought it was a pretty decent year for the horror genre overall.

That said, 10 horror movies stood out for me in 2013. Please keep in mind I haven't watched every single horror release, so feel free to let me know what I missed, but also please respect my opinion on *my* favorites, which may differ from your own. Also, I've included films that may have had a limited release in 2012 (whether on the festival circuit or limited release) but were given wide (or wider) release in 2013, so please don't come at me with "well, technically, so-and-so is a 2012 release". I know and I don't care since I am going by the wider release date, k?

Book Review: The Living Dead 2

Ah, short story collections, how I love thee! Seriously, is there anything better than bite-sized horror tales? They are perfect for when you don’t have much time in your day but still want to sneak in 30 minutes of mayhem into your schedule. Being a busy bee myself, I love short horror stories for this very reason, and therefore was totally stoked upon receiving The Living Dead 2, a collection from varying authors edited by John Joseph Adams that is a follow up to his first volume of The Living Dead, called by Barnes & Noble “the best collection of zombie fiction ever”.

Book Review: Dead Set - A Zombie Anthology

Zombies…what more can really be said about them? Our culture is inundated with zombie imagery in films, video games, magazines and books, familiar to pretty much anyone. In the horror genre there are dozens of new zombie films and books every year, so it’s amazing that fans aren’t fed up with the whole zombacalypse theme. However, it seems that despite the genre being flooded zombie stories, fans can’t get enough of them and the subgenre seems stronger than ever.
