But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before -
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.'
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'

It is probably no surprise that I love Edgar Allan Poe, and today I feel I must pay tribute to his 203rd birthday. It seems especially appropriate that his birthday fall on today since I am already in a morose mood, having been stuck in bed this entire week with the flu. Currently I'm still recovering, but it looks like my own birthday plans for the weekend will have to be delayed until I can fully recover from this nasty flu bug. Boo hoo.
For now, I plan to enjoy some Poe literature and perhaps watch some classic horror adaptations of his work.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Poe and thanks for all you've bequeathed us!
Indeed, Happy Birthday Mr. Poe!
ReplyDeleteI live in Baltimore and saw on the news recently that no one seems to visit his grave anymore on his birthday. It used to be a tradition to leave bottles of alcohol on the grave. So now the city is "cancelling" it as a tradition. Which is a shame.
ReplyDeleteI share my birthday with him!
