How to Have a Spooky 4th of July

Hope you are doing something spooky for Independence Day, but if not there is still time to plan something for tomorrow! As for me, I'm keeping it creepy by carving some melon-o-lanterns, watching some scary summer movies, and grilling up some vegan noms like the Beyond Burger. If you are still looking for ways to spookify your patriotic celebrations, I have some fun recommendations for you below!

What I Ate: Independence Day Edition

I had a lovely and languid three-day weekend for the July 4th holiday, where all I did was watch movies, take naps and eat some decadent food!

Of course, I had to Halloweenize this holiday, so on July 4th proper I carved a melon-o-lantern out of a mini watermelon. Yep, I really do try to make every day Halloween! It was a lot of fun, easy to do (though I did bust out my pumpkin carving tools), and reminded me that Halloween is not that far away! Here is my patriotic and starry-eyed little creation:

Film Review: Uncle Sam (1997)

When it comes to 4th of July, horror fiends pretty much only have one genre film to watch – Uncle Sam. I admit I am a little obsessed with horror films set during holidays, but for some reason I had never seen Uncle Sam. Once July rolls around the movie I usually watch is Jaws (which is only incidentally related to Independence Day), but this year I was determined to watch Uncle Sam…even if I got to it AFTER the 4th had already passed!

July 5th: Recovery Day

Had a ton of fun yesterday with friends, food, drinks and loud, sparkly thing that go BOOM!

Today's overcast day calls for snuggling on the couch watching movies and just chillaxing, but not before I share some fun firework photography I did last night. Enjoy the show!

Starting things off with a BANG!

Burst and bloom

Halloween colors - green, purple, orange

Fires of Hades (my personal favorite photo)

Apocalypse

Sweet & Tender Hooligan

Firestarter

Lost Souls

Mwahahahaa...mini monster!

All of the fireworks above were the dinky ones you can buy at any fireworks stand, but I love how the photographs make them look so much bigger than that! Definitely loving my "fireworks" setting on my point-and-shoot camera!

I'm off to do some more lounging, but I'll see you spooks later this week when I have more to post about!

Hope you all had a safe and fun 4th of July!
