The Beginnings of Halloween 2014 at HomeGoods

Written by Sarah E. Jahier

I have been stalking my TJ Maxx/HomeGoods store for the last couple of weeks, just waiting for them to start putting out their Halloween decor (I was told by a few stores that their Halloween stock was delayed this year, which explains why I haven't seen any yet)! I called them yesterday, and lo and behold the sales person told me they had just started stocking the shelves with Halloween stuff!

I headed to the store (for those interested, this is the TJ Maxx/HomeGoods store in Irvine) ASAP, filled with eager anticipation at what I might find. When I finally found their Halloween aisle (just one aisle for now, though I'm sure more will come!), I found they weren't foolin' when they told me they had JUST started stocking their shelves. Everything looked like it had just been thrown (as in literally tossed) haphazardly on the shelves. There was broken glass, and some of the merchandise was wet (hmmmm...maybe a snow globe had broken or something else was spilled?). I really had to dig to find worthwhile stuff, and it seemed like most of the decor was Halloween art painted on wooden signs (which I love, by the way, but there was a lot of it!).

I snapped a few pics so you get an idea of what they had:

Trick or Treat plus a danse macabre snow globe with two skeletons
dancing over a grave

Loved these blue and purple glass bottles with raven toppers!

That thing with the smiling pumpkin is actually the cutest lightbox -
I bought a few a couple of years ago and love them!

Potion bottles

Lottsa witchy signs, glass pumpkins and wooden sign art

Really love this bat marquee sign, but couldn't find a price on him and
I've seen reports he is going for $80, a bit out of my price range!

Pretty vintage-looking bottles

And here is what I ended up buying:

A changing-color LED skull lantern, Trick or Treat wooden sign art,
danse macabre skeleton snow globe, Sleepy Hollow wooden sign art,
Sweetie Pie Pumpkin Pie Coffee, witchy Halloween wooden sign

Does your HomeGoods has Halloween decor in yet? If so, did you score any Halloween goodies?

I'm hoping to go back in a week when they should have more stuff out.

  1. Hey Girl....well I've been stalking my 4 Home Goods also, and they too just started getting the Halloween merch out last weekend. I was SOOO excited, and like you, I realized it was truly just the beginning. But, I was thrilled none the less. Although I'm thinking your store had way more stuff than any of mine. I see some of the same things, and quite a few different things too in your pics, so I will go out again this weekend for round 2 in hopes they've had time to acquire some more goods. Wonder how long it will take JoAnne's and Target to get theirs out? Thanks for sharing your finds! :o)

  2. I've been stalking my local Home Goods (Los Angeles, CA) and they finally had two aisles (both sides) the weekend of 8/16/14. I was not disappointed. Some great stuff again this year. My prize purchase? This year, my Halloween theme is Frightening French Fete and I found a french girl bust (statue) wearing a mask! Light weight and under $50. So excited! Can't wait to check back next weekend. LOVE Home Goods Halloween!
