Beistle's Halloween 2018 Vintage Decorations + Retro Halloween Playlist

The Beistle Company is one of the oldest manufacturers of holiday and party decorations in the United States, founded in 1900. Even if you aren't familiar with the name, once you see their Halloween decorations you will recognize them. They are known for being the innovators of holiday decorations, making high-quality decor and party supplies that regular people could buy easily and affordably. Their original vintage decorations are highly sought after today by collectors and fans. Luckily, the Beistle Company makes reproductions of their vintage Halloween decor, so you can purchase and enjoy them without having to break the bank.

I was fortunate to receive some of Beistle's vintage Halloween reproductions to share with you. I have been a big fan of their vintage reproductions for some time now, and was excited to have the opportunity to check out some of their delightful decor. Their decor is really versatile and they offer so many different kinds that you will have no problem finding what is right for you! They offer cut-outs that can be placed on walls and windows, stand-up decor that can be placed on tabletops, hanging decor, banners, plates and napkins, favor boxes, jointed decor (like skeletons and pumpkins), and so much more! Food Review: Earth Balance Vegan Mac n Cheese

The vegan holy grail! Mac n cheese!

By now, most of you know that the wonderful Earth Balance has begun making vegan mac n cheese, sold in boxes just like the Kraft stuff most of us were familiar with in our pre-vegan days! I don’t know about you, but those boxes of mac n cheese hold so many nostalgic memories for me, so in my opinion I think it is fantastic that this comfort food has finally been veganized!

Earth Balance has made two flavors – the classic orange-colored cheddar flavor, plus a white cheddar flavor. Both flavors should be on store shelves this month (some are already hitting the shelves of local health food stores and Whole Foods), but I got impatient and just ordered mine online from the fine folks at Rabbit Food Grocery.

31 Days of Halloween: The Halloween Kid Short Film

Only six more days until Halloween! And today I have quite a treat for you...The Halloween Kid, a short by filmmaker Axelle Carolyn!

I first heard about this short last year, but this year is the first time I was finally able to watch it! I think it is a really well-done, nostalgic short about a lonely boy and the joy he finds on Halloween. I love all the autumn and Halloween set pieces in this short and the rhyming narration adds a whimsical touch!

31 Days of Halloween: Retro Halloween Costumes from the '70s and '80s

A while back, I finally got my hands on Ossian Brown's stunning book Haunted Air (review), which is just packed with vintage Halloween costume photos. There is something both disturbing and nostalgic about these old images of witches, hobos, ghosts, vampires and monsters.

While unsettling, I could stare at photos like this every day! So I scoured the world wide web for some of the coolest and creepiest vintage photos, and decided that since Brown's book doesn't show photos from the '70s or '80s, I decided to post some here!

31 Days of Halloween: The Artwork of Stephen Gammell

The images below certainly bring back childhood memories of reading Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. At every book fair I had in elementary school I was picking up either Goosebumps books or one of the Scary Stories books. Looking back, the stories aren't all that creepy, but Stephen Gammell's artwork still sends a chill down my spine! So, it goes without saying that Gammell's artwork is perfect for October!
