Food Review: Vegan Cuts' October 2014 Snack Box

October's Vegan Cuts Snack Box (skeleton not included!)

Written by Sarah E. Jahier

I was excited to learn that Vegan Cuts’ monthly subscription snack box for the month of October would be curated by one of my absolute favorite vegan personalities, the Vegan Black Metal Chef! The Vegan Black Metal Chef (or VBMC) creates some awesome and easy vegan recipes and presents them in epic black metal music videos, complete with corpse paint and some wicked kitchen utensils that I am really jealous of! He writes all his own black metal music, and sings/growls/screams his recipes in his videos (SWOON!). So how perfect that the Vegan Black Metal Chef hand-picked some of the snacks for Vegan Cuts during the spooky month of Halloween!

I have been a fan of Vegan Cuts’ snack boxes for quite some time now, and think they are a wonderful way of discovering and trying new vegan snack products. I think their snack boxes are especially great if you live somewhere that doesn't have a lot of vegan options or you just like getting your snack fix delivered directly to your door. I also like that they sometimes have different vegan celebrities hand-pick items for the boxes, which give the boxes a more personal feel. Plus you get to discover the favorite snacks of some pretty awesome vegans!

This October I was stoked to discover three favorite vegan snacks of the Vegan Black Metal Chef along with snacks handpicked from the Vegan Cuts team, and I wasn't disappointed! This month’s box is packed full of awesome vegan snack products, from chips to chocolate-covered coconut to a chocolate square to a soda! Let’s take a closer look at the items that were included in the October 2014 Vegan Cuts’ snack box:

Flamous Organic Chips (I got their Sprouted Multigrain Zatar Chips) - Love this brand! They are 100% organic, non-GMO, gluten-free chips that are perfect on their own or dipped in salsa or hummus. This is one of the items hand-picked by the VBMC.

TCHO Dark Chocolate - Organic and Fair-Trade Certified dark chocolate with bright berry notes and hints of cherry. This is another snack hand-picked by the VBMC.

Tasty Brand Organic Smoothie Fruit Snacks - Delicious vegan gummies that contain no gelatin, no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives! They are organic, non-GMO, gluten free and made with real fruit juice! This is the third yummy product selected by the VBMC.

Veggie Elite Protein by MRM - This protein powder packs 24 grams of non-GMO complete protein!

Pop Art Rosemary Truffle Gourmet Popcorn - Mmmmmm, aromatic rosemary paired with Italian Black Summer Truffles creates an indulgent popcorn snack. This was my favorite item and now I must hunt this product down in stores!

Coconut Organics' Coconut Chips (I got Dark Chocolate) - These superfood snacks are made with raw cacao, coconut sugar and toasted coconut with a touch of organic vanilla and sea salt. It may taste decadent, but it is full of fiber, healthy fats and overall goodness!

Numi Organic Teas (I received Chocolate Spice Black Tea and Chocolate Rooibos Herbal Teasan) - I love chocolate teas! And Numi makes the best around, with no weird added ingredients - just Fair Trade Certified organic cacao powder, organic black tea and roobios and organic spices.

Zevia Soda (I got Ginger Ale) - Ditch the sugar and try this naturally sweetened soda, which uses stevia! I like this alternative to regular diet soda, which has zero calories without all the nasty artificial sweeteners.

Luv You PB&J Bar - This bar is made with only three ingredients - organic peanuts, organic raisins and Pink Himalayan sea salt, It is very similar to Larabars, and even more delicious! It is even shaped into a cute heart!

  1. The Coconut Chips sounds amazing! And I'd be game to try the popcorn. I'm not big on rosemary, but maybe I've been using it wrong!
